On July 19 and 20, join local San Diegans and tourists for the annual Pride Festival which honors diversity and celebrates the LGBT community at large.

Attendance & Philosophy of San Diego Pride

This year’s Pride festival is expected to draw huge crowds, with participants of all ages and from all walks of life. This inclusive attitude and concern for meeting the various needs of community members is reflective of the core values of San Diego Pride, among which are diversity, respect, honesty, integrity, and accountability.

Time Frame, Location, and Tickets

The Pride Festival will open at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, after the parade has gotten underway. The festival will then continue until 10:00 p.m. on Saturday night and will be open again on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The festival will be held at Marston Point in Balboa Park, near 6th Ave. and Laurel Street. Parking will be very tight, so festival organizers are encouraging attendees to carpool, take public transportation, and to make use of the free shuttle that will be provided. Information regarding the free shuttle can be found on the San Diego Pride website.

Tickets are $15 for a one-day pass or $25 for a two-day pass. Students with valid ID are $10 and military with active ID will be allowed to enter free of charge.

Admittance and Activities

San Diego Pride makes a concerted effort to uphold its core value of diversity, and as such, every effort is made welcome children of all ages to the festival and to provide a safe and nurturing environment for them. Within the festival, there will be a Children’s Garden with activities for younger children. For the slightly older youth, an Xpress Welcome Tent will be set up where youth will receive goodie bags and will be able to locate a “safe person” in the event that they feel uncomfortable or have any questions.

In addition, this year’s festival will include more than 300 vendor booths, a variety of stages with live entertainment, and a beer garden. There will even be a Ferris Wheel with free rides offered upon verification of paid admission.

As the 2008 Pride Festival begins to draw to a close, don't miss Kathy Griffin who will takes the stage as this year’s headliner. Griffin, a long-time comedienne and host of “My Life on the D-List” will appear on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. on the festival’s Green Stage.

Ready, Set, Go!

As the summer sun heats things up, grab a bottle of water and a good pair of walking shoes and join local San Diegans (and visitors) for a weekend of activities and activism.

Kick the weekend off right by attending the Human Rights Rally & Vigil on Friday, July 18 at 6:30 p.m. in Balboa Park. Then, get ready to march proudly in the parade (or watch proudly from the sidelines) and enjoy the offerings of the festival, all the while remembering the sacrifices of those who came before.
